Applications are being invited from young people aged 15 - 25 to take part in The Tall Ships Races 2022 aboard the Swan this summer

The Swan Trust is to offer a ladies only trip later in the year, with an all-female crew. The weekend trip will take place in September, exploring the east side of Shetland, and will be the first time the Swan has been crewed exclusively by women.

The Swan Trust and well-known Shetland musician Barry Nisbet are to offer Sessions and Sail in Shetland for the first time. Sailing around the Isles 25th - 29th April 2022, the trip will also coincide with the 40th Shetland Folk Festival.

The Swan Trust has confirmed that Maggie Adamson will be their skipper for 2022, with a very full programme of youth charters, community projects and public trips, including St Kilda, the Hebrides, Shetland day trips, a family focused half day and the first Shetland Sessions and Sail voyage

A tribute to Allister Rendall, a dear friend and long standing Trustee, who passed away on 27th December 2021. He was a driving force within The Swan Trust for over 30 years, a former chair and one of those who crewed the Swan’s return to Shetland in 1991.

The Swan Trust is among 29 local projects and charities to receive funding from the Shetland Charitable Trust for 2022/23. This support will help enable the Trust to continue to deliver its volunteering and sailing opportunities to the community, as well as promote and keep Shetland’s maritime heritage alive.

To celebrate 25 years since her relaunch, BBC Radio Shetland recently aired a one hour programme about the Swan returning to Shetland in the early 1990s, her restoration and new life as a sail training vessel.

Scott Sandison has received a Shetland Community Spirit Award for his long-term commitment to teaching young people to sail on the Swan.

School pupils from the Sandwick School recently enjoyed trips aboard Shetland's historic sailing vessel, the Swan, learning about maritime heritage, marine careers and how to operate a sailing boat.

Two new films about the heritage and current activities of the classic sailing vessel the Swan have been shown for the first time during the 2021 Anstruther Harbour Festival. The films focus on her original career as a sail fishing vessel, her restoration and subsequent new life as a sail training and charter vessel.

The Swan was in Unst and Yell last week to deliver a number of half day sails to pupils in the isles. Skippering the trip was Scott Sandison, who first came aboard the Swan as a schoolboy himself, which inspired him to pursue a marine career.
